Can I install over the top any of the two registered and trial versions in either directions? And I saw in the posts that I had to do the start-run-command-net user postgresql /delete before installing a different one. Is that not true?

No, that's not true. Once you have installed postgres once, leave it alone.
You should then download and install PT3 WITHOUT postgres versions. You can just install over the top as long as you don't have PT3 running.

This might help solve the problem...

Strange bit of new info. I imported all of the hand histories and tournament results(for some reason both of these only go back to April of this year) I could find in my computer. I think my other computer that lost its hard drive had most of them.

I guess there were about five or so 5 or so cash games in these results. These populated the list fine and it looks as if I can go through the tabs and work with that info. So why would that be? I can only think that there must be some difference between the data, or some setting that is screwed up for the tournaments but not for the cash games, or there are simply too many hands (about 15-20 thousand) for the tournaments.

Please let me know if this might make my issue clearer, or if you have some more ideas.

Thanks!

I a wondering if I have postgres correctly installed because there are so many references to people accessing "utilities>file splitter" "tools>query tool" and generally working with it. I go into postgres and there is nothing to access but some files with not much in them.

Have I done something wrong? Am I missing something? How does one access a database anyway? And perhaps I wasn't waiting long enough for it to populate? I have no clue how long that should take...

I would guess that these refer to using PGAdmin, the postgres 'management' utility. Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> PGAdmin.

As for your import with lots of tournaments and few cash games...
The tournaments section (you are using the "Tournaments" tab, aren't you?) will take longer to load if you have lots of hands, but should appear within a minute or 2 I'd guess. Just try switching to a tab (eg the General tab) and leave it to run for a while. Do you see "Loading..." and then "Populating..."? What happens exactly?
Did the tournament hands all import OK, did you get any errors?

I went to pgAdmin and there are only 3 files in it: docs, i18n and Scripts. Is this correct? If not, I guess I need to reinstall PostgresSQL or did I do the install wrong? Are there steps beyond the initial install with Poker Tracker Build 2, then the overinstall of Build 12?

I went to the tournament tab and let it populate for about 30 minutes and no change. The little dots didn't move after a second or two.

I'm not talking about the PGAdmin folder, I mean go through the Start menu so you are running the PGAdmin application.

Please enable logging, reproduce your problem on the Tournaments tab and submit your PokerTracker.log to the
Support system , and link to this thread.

Wow! I had no clue this program existed. I had to use the search function. Thanks! Excited now but I have no idea about the settings. I think I connected through the red x, but not sure what log file to point to... Or any of the other settings...

I also have it running and changed the MD5s to TRUST so permissions won't be an issue.

I actually got it working! I fiddled with the pgadmin, but didn't know what I was doing. Would still like to know if it is set up right. I went and created a new database and went back and translated one HH I had in ANSI to Unicode-8 and it imported, populated and data filled the table!

My only concern is, do I have to translate every file from ANSI to Unicode-8? There are 247 left! I guess they transferred as unicode-8 and in turning them into text docs, I made the into ANSI, Aaaghckkk!

Let me know if you know of a faster method besides opening each file and resaving it as unicode. Did I just have to cut out the first and last lines of the original?
