Installing PT3

Postby PJSP » Mon Aug 18, 2008 2:41 pm

I want to download and purchase PT3 but I am clueless with technical stuff. Out of the four download options, which do I need?

Thanks

Have you got PostgreSQL installed? If you don't know, you probably haven't. I'd then advice downloading Beta 15 (with PostgreSQL). In the future when you simply want to upgrade you can download the version without postgresql as you'll already have it installed.

OK...during installing PostgreSQL, it has stopped at the point of "initializing database cluster". An error message came up saying: "failed to run initdb! please see the logfile in C:program files (x86)\PostgreSQL\8.3\tmp\initdb.log. Note! you must read/copy this logfile before you click ok, or it will be automatically removed".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: when I eventually did click "ok" it said copying new files and "rolling back action". Also I'm installing it on Windows Vista if that helps.

Thanks for the link. I have one more question if that's ok  When I open the link it provides me with two download options. http or ftp. Which do I need?

Sorry about this, I said I was clueless!

Go for http - this is the normal browser-based version and should be simpler, I'd guess.

I've hit another wall. I've downloaded the link and got as far as "service configuration" but it won't go beyond. I'll try and type it as I see it on the screen.

The "install as a service" box is ticked

Service name: PostgreSQL
Account name: Postgres
Account domain: Home-PC
Account password:
Verify password:

When I click "next" I get a message saying "account error"

"Invalid username specified: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password".

I get the above message whether I type a password or not.

I don't remember suffering like this with the old version of PT :o

Thanks again for any help.

I think this is probably because of your previous attempt to install - follow the instructions in this post:
Total uninstall/reinstall of pt3

OK, an additional problem :(

I have now followed the above process to the best of my ability but I now have a pop up when I double click it and try to install it.

A window comes up with windows installer, followed by an error message.

It says: "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package".

This also happened before I uninstalled it (except for the first time). I have also tried it by disabling the UAC.
