Cannot connect to PostgreSQL

Postby brian8065 » Mon Sep 15, 2008 8:49 pm

I cannot connect to PostgreSQL. This is what I tried.

This means that postgres isn't running.
Please try starting the postgres service: Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL -> Start Service.
If that, and a reboot doesn't work, try stopping the service (Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Stop Service), running a search on your computer for postmaster.pid and then deleting that file, then restarting the service and see if that helps.
Note that you may need to turn on 'View hidden files and folders', and the file seems to be in the folder './Program Files/postgresql//data'.

I have done this many ways. I have ran it with and without my anti-virus software, ESET NOD32. I have long ago deleted postmaster.pid. I went to the command prompt and did the reindexing, and that didn't work either. Every time I got this error message.

reindexdb: could not connect to database postgres: could not connect to server:
Connection refused <0x0000274D/10061>
Is the server running on host "???" and accepting
TCP/IP connections on port 5432

I have reinstalled Pokertracker, and reinstalled PostgreSQL, then installed the latest Beta version of Pokertracker.

When I open pokertracker it takes well over a minute for it to open.

I get this message from Pokertracker.

2008/09/15 18:46:17: Unable to begin feeder import process. Reason: Unable to login to database (PT3 DB). Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

I have been trying to get this fixed for at least 3 weeks. Please help.

Please follow the directions in this post: Total uninstall/reinstall of pt3.
If you follow the directions carefully and it still doesn't work, please post back.

I tried the first step, which is backing up the database. I quickly got this message.

Unable to login to database (PT3 DB). Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

If you've already re-installed postgres, I assumed you'd removed your old databases already.
If you have a PT3 database you wish to keep, then don't delete the postgres folders, and when you re-install, on the step with the option to 'create database cluster', you should UNCHECK this option so that it uses the existing database.
You will need to do the rest of the full uninstall instructions, though. Add/remove programs; net user postgres /delete, etc.

I have uninstalled both postgres and pokertracker 3

I went to the folders, and deleted postgres. I tried to delet pokertracker 3 and was denied access. I went inside the folder, and deleted everything except
libeay32.dll
pokertracker
ssleay32.dll

I then went to the cmd prompt, and typed in "net user /delete postgres"
I received the error message

System error 5 has occurred.
Access is denied

I will wait for further instructions from you. I am off work now, and should be able to stay with it until we get it resolved.

I am using Windows Vista by the way.

Before you click to open the command prompt, right click it and set it to 'Run As Administrator'.

If you can't delete the pokertracker file then PT3 is still running - go to Task Manager -> Processes and End the pokertracker process. You don't need to delete those files, but you will need to make sure it's stopped before you can re-install.

I am up and running again. I had to install beta 17 to resolve other problems. Thanks for the help.
