Slow import speeds

Postby kharlog » Sat May 24, 2008 1:37 pm

I'm trying to convert my PT2 database to PT3 format. I exported all my hands from PT2 database to an specific directory (about 2 million hands). Now I'm importing those hands using PT3 manual import feature. It's importing those hands a about 52 hands/second. So the import is going to take around 20 hours. I have heard that with a fast computer (like mine) the import speed should be like 200h/s. Is there any way to get imports faster?

Edit: Forgot to mention that those hands are Full Tilt Poker hand histories. Large majority of them are 6max games. Other hands are heads up.

My computers specs:
Intel Q6600 (Quad core)
2gb DDR2
4xSeagate 7200.11 750gb on RAID10
Windows XP SP2

Just for refference I imported 3 million hands of Full ring NL from Full tilt and my average was about 108 H/S. I am using a much much slower machine than yours.

I recently imported 1.5 million Pokerstars handhistories with ~ 200 h/s.

Intel Q9300 (quad core)
4GB DDR3
2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB, RAID0
Vista 32bit SP1

I just wonder, if it could import faster, because while importing CPU load was around 5-10% and memory load was around 40-50%.

don't forget a lot of processing is going on in the db when you import - so the cpu/memory/io activity could be happening in the postgres processes...

is this a network or localhost db?
