update problem-unable to log onto database

1. I have updated the July1 update and am getting this message
(unable to log on to database(PT3....)
Reason: could not connect to server: Connection Refused
Is server running on localhost and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432

What do I need to do?

how did you update, and what did you update (postgres as well?) - did you uninstall anything?

Sounds like postgres isn't running - first thing to try is restarting it; Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Start Service.

I'm having the same issues. Tried the start postgres suggestion as well.

Can you see any postgres processes in Task Manager / Processes?

I've just seen this in response to what I think is the same problem and it fixed it.

"Try stopping the [postgres] service, running a search on your computer for postmaster.pid and then deleting that file, then restarting the service and see if that helps."

I'm having the issue as well, I get it all the time and restarting my computer always worked. This time it isn't. I'm on vista and tried the start - post method but couldn't find it. I went into task manager and nothing was running so i tried the services tab in the task manager and it says pqsgq-8.3 'stop...'. I went into services and PosgresSQL is on 'starting' and startup type is 'Automatic'. I went into it's properties and hit the start button and got the error 'Windowns could not start Post... service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion'.

sounds like you've got the good ol' service permissions problem...

check my post here viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6332 (edit: link - viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6332#p38285) on how to resolve; also if it's vista, check uac is off; also post back any events in the events log pertainent to this error...

so am i reading that link right that I need to reinstall Postsql and make sure my virus protection (in my case Kasperskey) is turned off?
