Daily Issue with PT3 / PostgreSQL (Re-Install only solution)

Postby HoldHoldBusto » Fri Jul 11, 2008 9:36 pm

Not exactly sure what the issue is, but every so often FTP and PT3 will freeze on me, completely lock up. Furthermore I can't log back into FTP for about 2 minutes. I am not exactly sure what causes this issue. It seems to happen when I'm in non-holdem tables and PT3 is running. Then again I think it might be Windows Updater, I've heard that causes issues too, so I am not sure. Well every 2nd or 3rd freeze, when I try to start PT3 again I get the following error message:

"Unable to begin feeder import process. Reason: Unable to login to database (PT3 DB). Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?"

Obviously I did research and looked at previous posts where people have this issue. Nothing works. If I run the bats nothing happens. If I try to stop/start the service it fails. It sucks cause I end up uninstalling/reinstalling PT3/Postgre daily, which includes re-importing my hands, etc.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Note: Re-install fixes the issue.

Recently discovered:
"Try stopping the service (Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Stop Service), running a search on your computer for postmaster.pid and then deleting that file, then restarting the service and see if that helps.

one thing at a time; is the postgres service running when you hit this?

Whiterider, I will try this next time I encouter the issue, thanks.

Keggler, when PT3 and FTP freeze, I subsequently get this issue in PT3. When I go to the services tab of windows and try to stop/start postgres, I get the same error I get in PT3 which is the one I quoted earlier. So my answer to your question I think is no, postgres is not running anymore.

Then the first thing to try is just to restart postgres: Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Start Service.
That may be all you need..

so putting aside PT for a moment (don't have it running i mean) when you try to stop & restart the postgres service, does it start, or get stuck in limbo trying to start?

also, anything in the o/s event logs when you try and restart the service?

whiterider: when I run the stop start .exe apps in the postgres folder, they run, I think, dos opens briefly, but I can't see anything, then it closes. And I still get the same error after I do this.

Keggler: when I try to start the service in services window, it tries to start, then fails, with that same message I quoted above. what are o/s event logs?
