Computer Crash need Help Importing PT2 DBs

Postby mudpi » Wed Jul 30, 2008 1:38 pm

I try to convert but no PT2 DBs are found. I have them on the old disk drive which I installed in my new PC. Where do I move them so PT3 recognizes them for the convert process? I'm using the trial version of PT3, beta 15 which I installed w/Postgres yesterday.

I assume I can also convert my old backups too.

Thanks,

PT3 can only convert Postgres databases, not Access ones.
I'm guessing that your PT2 DBs are Access?
If so, you will need to re-install PT2 and link to the databases, then export the hands, as in this FAQ: viewtopic.php?f=45&t=5253

If you are going to do this, you will also need your hand history database, which is the file:
C:\program files\Poker Tracker V2\hhdb.mdb
Basically, you need to get PT2 working again before transferring hands to PT3.

Note: If you kept a back up of the original hand history files somewhere, then you can just import those instead..

Sorry, no these were 8.0 postgres backups. I didn't keep the original hand histories. I was hoping that PT3 would convert all my old PT2 DBs, or at least my most recent one. Do I need to reinstall PT2 and if I do what is the recommended procedure, export to HH, or convert with PT3?

Oh and I should mention that I'm using the PT3 DB maintenance guide to convert these PT postgres DBs. My old HD is working fine so I can move any files needed to my new system.

If the PT2 DBs were created in postgres then you will have to restore them before PT3 can access them.
Also, you will need the hand history database as I said before - I don't know what happens to that when you convert PT2 to postgres, or whether you will have backed that up?

What version of postgres do you have installed now?
Since they were created in 8.0, you may struggle to restore them in 8.2 or 8.3, although I'm not sure about that.. (postgres experts?)
I'm pretty sure you'll need to have them restored into the same version of postgres that PT3 is using.

Once you have the DBs restored I *think* you'll be able to convert them using PT3 (although you might need to have PT2 installed again so that PT3 can find them and know that they're PT2 DBs).

As I understand it, I have to download and install PT2 to my new PC. I guess it will work well with my current version of postgres 8.3. I do have the hhdb.mdb file on my old drive. So do I copy the contents of the old C:\programs\pokertracker v2 to the new PC C:\programs\pokertracker v2 I just installed, or just the hhdb.mdb file? Once that is done I will be able to recover my current PT2 DB I hope. After that I restore (reattach from the DB maintenance menu) each old DB that I want to convert. (I have them by year and game type.) PT3 will then pick them up in the convert window.

Yes, I hope that will work. Just copy the hhdb.mdb file.
The only potential problem I can see is if the databases were backed up in an older version of postgres, the restore may not be straight forward.
Also, to use 8.3 with PT2 see this post: It is possible to use PT2 with postgres 8.3

Regarding your link, I can't find the application stack builder in the run menu. Can I download and install the drivers from your source?

You definitely have 8.3, do you? It should say 8.3 when you go through the start menu to postgres.

I don't know the details of that, you would probably be better off asking in the PT2 forums.

you will have to use the pg_dump & psql interfaces to move the database(s) between 8.0 and 8.3... the internal data formats are not compatible, so you can't just replace the binaries...

it's worth bearing in mind that a lot of the new statistics available in PT3 will not be generated for the PT2 data by going this route, but I notice the OP doesn't have the original hh's, so i guess they'll have to live without that...

OP has the hhdb.mdb file, so if they can get PT2 set up using 8.3 then they have access to the hand histories.
The point of restoring the 8.0 DB into 8.3 is to get it working in PT2 so that they are then able to convert to PT3.
You won't be able to restore a PT2 DB directly into a PT3 DB because they are completely different DB structures.
