External Hard Drive

Postby TheLife » Mon Aug 25, 2008 5:40 pm

Pat,

I just bought an External Harddrive to store my database on so that hopefully it won't lag my computer as it's getting very big. First of all, will this work? I'm trying to play with tracker running off of my main drive and referencing the database on the external. Assuming it works, what files do I need to transfer to the External and how do I go about doing this?

Thanks :)

Okay I just realized I should probably do some searching while waiting for your reply.

I found this thread : archives/PT2/viewtopic.php?t=23098&highlight=external+hard+drive

I did the steps in the thread so I'm guessing it should work now. I can go ahead and delete those from my main hard drive and it should still work correct amirite?

Also, if I wanted to read the database on my laptop which is Vista, will there be any conversion problems?

I wouldn't delete the files yet. I would rename them, make sure PT still works reading from the external drive and then if it does you can delete the files.

On the laptop, to be able to read the files off the external drive you pretty much need to make the same changes to the ODBC entries....or are you not going to plug the external drive into the laptop?

Simple enough, it seems to be reading just fine from the other drive. You think this will speed up performance?

I doubt having it on an external drive will be faster.
