Postby saxton101 » Sat Aug 30, 2008 5:00 am

Hi guy's i was wondering if i could get some help on this matter, last week i compacted ( not too sure if it was my poker database or hand history database of maybe both) any after this process was done,i lost everything on my pokertracker, stats, players names, the lot... now i have a hand history file and from there they go into a processed file..... now how do i stop this from happening agian (losing all my files) is there some setting i need to do ? and and second where can i find this back up files, just one more note i did find some kind of files in microsoft access, but these just gave me a name no actual hand histories, the majority of these hand histories are observed hands.... poker site is full tilt, i only use the one database.. i have now just over 5,000 players, with over 400,000 hands how do i compact this without loosing all my data....
cheers andy...

Are you using Vista? If so it sounds like you have not always been running PT as administrator every time you start it as you need to. Please see this FAQ and make sure you start PT this way all the time

Go to the c:\program files\poker tracker v2 folder. Is there a file called ptrack_backup.mdb and hhcopy.mdb there? If so, what are the sizes and date/times on these files.

Now, click on the Compatibility Files link/button. Are there any files in this folder with those names? If so, what are the date/times/sizes on them?

ok i just had a look in the pokertracker folder the only thing that resembles anything like you just described are ptrack (2 files) and hhdb (2 files) now they both have 1 3d grid box with a lock and key on it and the other has just a big purple key on a paper... does that make any sense, just one more note ive managed to import files from my processed file folder, so all is not lost... now ive got it running right ( pokertracker ) in admin, when i compact the files all should now run as normal right ? sweet i hope so... thanks ptract pat for all your help

You need to turn on file extensions, in Vista to do this, see here
http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1269/vis ... extensions

If you have already reimported your files and you always run as admin you should be OK. Just make sure that you always get that cancel/allow prompt from Vista when you start PT. If you don't get that, it means it's not running as admin. If you changed the PT desktop icon properties to run as admin then DO NOT start PT from the Start > All Programs... menu because it won't run as administrator that way.
