Networked Database Problem

Postby suited76 » Fri May 23, 2008 2:46 pm

I've got 3 computers that are using PA Hud and sharing the same database.

I set it up changing the ODBC information and the registry and everything works smoothly.

The problem occurs whenever I do a compact and repair in poker tracker on the main computer. After doing that, the client computers tell me, "Microsoft jet database engine cannot open the file .... It is already opened exclusively by another user or you need permission to view its data."

Rebooting both computers has no effect. The only thing I can do is create a new database and set that one up to share. It works fine until I compact and repair it.

Any ideas at all?? Thank you in advance.

I don't know why it would be doing this when compacting. Try doing the compact/repair using the

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > DataSources(ODBC)

window.

Click on the PTRACKX entry there that you want to compact/repair and click the Configure button.

Then on the next window, click the Repair button and then OK again when prompted.

The compact and repair do basically the same thing.

See if this works any better than doing it in PT.

Pat,

Thanks for the quick reply last week. Unfortunately, doing the compact/repair from the ODBC control panel section didn't fix the problem. It's like PT locks the database while it's compacting, but doesn't unlock it for some reason (just a guess).

Your suggestion made me think though and I decided to try and do a compact/repair inside of Access (I have version 2007) and that seemed to clear whatever lock was on the database. After using Access to compact the HH and my regular database, the client machines open up just fine. Thought you might want a workaround in case anyone else ever has the same problem.

Thanks again.

Actually, I failed to mention that you needed to close PT first before trying to compact because then PT would release that lock file.
