Trying to reinstall PT4

Postby Groovy Dayz » Thu Feb 11, 2021 3:15 pm

Hi. I just got a new computer, (an Acer), uninstalled PT4 on my previous computer, and when I download PT4 on this computer, it tells me I'm somehow using an invalid registration code, even though I'm copying and pasting the same code. It's aggravating. Anybody know what the problem is?

This has to be some kinda twisted joke outta Twilight Zone

I just ordered a new computer; took me a week to get. As soon as I got it, I see I'm having some charger connection issues and don't know if it's the charger or computer itself. But if I send this thing BACK, it's gonna take me another two gotdamn weeks to get it replaced, and even THEN it's no guarantee it'll work. So, I was just trying to use my original PT4 registration code from my previous computer for this computer, and it's not working for some reason, when PT4 tells me I need to uninstall PT4 on my original computer. So I uninstalled it and PT4 is STILL telling me I'm using an invalid registration code. NOW, I'm finding that I might've needed to SAVE my PT4 data on my previous computer BEFORE uninstalling it. What in TF kind of absolute F'NG BULLSH*T IS this?

I have sent a copy of your original PokerTracker order confirmation email containing your PokerTracker registration code in a separate email to you so copy/paste the code from that email. If you still get an "Invalid Registration Code" error restart PokerTracker 4 using the logging enabled link on your Windows Start Menu and then send us this file in a Support Ticket:

C:\Users\{Windows Login}\AppData\Local\PokerTracker 4\Logs\PokerTracker4.log

If you do not see the AppData folder in Windows File Explorer then refer to this guide. Also let us know in the ticket if you are on a work computer or something where you log in to your work's network before trying to use/download PokerTracker 4? Are you going through an Internet proxy, running from within a VPN or using a mobile hotspot? Any of those could cause registration issues.

A new computer isn't going to know anything about the hands you have played on a different computer. If you still have the previous computer you can transfer the data using backup & restore:

Guide: Backup & Restore

PokerTracker 4 also archives your hand history files and those can be imported using 'Play Poker -> Get Hands From Disk' if you have access to them:

Guide: Processed Files

If you no longer have access to the previous computer then your poker site(s) may be able to provide you with copies of your hand histories.

Dear Flag_Hippo, thank you very much for the reply and the info. I'm a bit inebriated at the moment, but will get back to your messages soon; will take your advice, and will let you know how it works out.

@Flag_Hippo: Okay, I am successful getting my PT4 registered on my new computer.

"A new computer isn't going to know anything about the hands you have played on a different computer. If you still have the previous computer you can transfer the data using backup & restore:"

Right. And I do still have my previous computer, but I uninstalled PT4 before I ever backed it up. I'm not an IT guy and just assumed that PT4 automatically did backups. Would I reinstall PT4 on my previous computer to move the database from my previous computer to this computer, or am I gonna have to try to get the hand histories from ACR? Also, I used lots of stats; is there a way I can get them all to pop back up, or do I have to do it manually?

You can reinstall PokerTracker 4 on the previous computer and if you didn't also uninstall PostgreSQL (the program where PokerTracker 4 stores your poker data) you should be able to use PokerTracker 4 normally and then backup all of your poker data/stats there before transferring to your new computer.

Alright, I think I've got everything backed-up and restored. How do I now transfer all the PT4 data from my original computer to this computer?

You can transfer the backup file created on the old computer via a flash drive/memory stick or the Cloud (Dropbox, Google Drive e.t.c.) and when the backup file is on the new computer you can run the restore process.
