Methods for fast importing Hands

Postby mariusica » Sat Jun 13, 2020 1:08 pm

Hello,
Currently i plan to change my hardware, going for an i9-9900k and 64gb ram. And by doing this i have to
reinstall my windows and import the hands (40gb of import data) in the new windows.

Options-> Database Mangement -> Restore takes alot of time when working with 40gb.

Are there any faster methods to migrate my database to the new windows? SSD space is not an issue.

Thank you

There isn't another method I can suggest other than reimporting hands or using Backup & Restore. If reimporting then speeds can drop over large imports so we recommend splitting your larger imports into batches. If using restore then unchecking 'User Data Files' if you use NoteCaddy and 'Processed Hands' will make things faster (you can still back them up and manually extract them from the backup file if you need anything).

I was referring to populating a new database by importing from hand history files instead of using backup/restore. So, for example, if you were importing hands into a new database using 'Play Poker -> Get Hands From Disk' then do not point PokerTracker 4 to a folder containing a large quantity of hands as import speeds will drop as the import goes on.

AA, i see now.
So i have the hands played in:
AppData\Local\PokerTracker4\Processed\
And instead of backup -> restore i may import the hands from the processed folder but doing that on subfolders and not the whole folder. That should increase the import time ?

If you import from the whole 'Processed' folder at once the import speeds will drop the longer the import goes on. Importing in smaller batches will overcome this however this will still take time if you have alot of hands. You can start with the most recent ones and work backwards from there since those would be most relevant however please note that:

1. I don't know if reimporting will be quicker than restoring from a backup file.

2. If you do not have all of your original hands in your current database in the 'Processed' folder then those can be exported from the original database:

Guide: Exporting Hands

3. If you have a large quantity of manually edited tournament results then you will not get those reimporting from the original hands again so you would either need to restore from a backup file or exp[ort the tournaments from the original database which will create summary files with the edited results.

4. If you reimport and want to transfer notes you can do so via 'Database -> Notes'.

5. Marked/tagged hands can only be transferred using backup & restore.
