PostgreSQL

I downloaded the free trial for PT4 today, and I wanted to make sure it worked on my computer before I purchased it. I got to the part with the PostgreSQL and I tried to click connect, it said "unable to connect to database". I kept the filled in settings for the configuration and tried reinstalling, and still no progress. Is there a way I can configure it so it will connect? Or is there something else I can do? Would appreciate it if anyone could help. Thanks in advance.

Thanks

If you already had PostgreSQL installed on your computer before using PokerTracker 4 then you will need to use the password which was set up when it was installed. For example if you have tried another tracker try the password "postgrespass". If not then click your Windows Start button and type the following command:

services.mscĀ

and click on it when it appears. Do you see the PostgreSQL service in the list? Is it started, or can you start it? If the PostgreSQL service is not listed at all then it will need to be manually installed and we have a guide for that here. If the PostgreSQL service is listed but not starting then open the Event Viewer (in the same way - if you type 'event' you should see it). In the top left section, expand "Windows Logs" and click on "Application". Do you see any recent errors in the top center section for PostgreSQL? If you do let us know what they say.

I tried manually downloading postgreSQL version 13.1 for Windows 86-64. I got to the download stage and right at the end of the download, it said

"problem running post-installation step. Installation may not be complete correctly. The database cluster initialization failed."

What should I do to fix this? Let me know. Thanks in advance!

Please download and install PostgreSQL v9.6 from here. After downloading you should right-click the file and run as administrator. When it suggests the folder to install in, remove the "Program Files" part so that you end up with:

C:\PostgreSQL\9.6

For the two password boxes use "dbpass" (no quotes). When the installer says it's finished, take the check mark out of the "Stack Builder" option and click the "Finish" button. If the PostgreSQL install does not complete successfully please send us this file in a Support Ticket:

--> C:\Users\{Windows Login}\AppData\Local\Temp\install-postgresql.log

If you do not see the AppData folder in Windows File Explorer then please refer to this guide.
